Fairmont Hot Springs is obviously well-known for it’s healing mineral waters, but there are a few more thermal baths nearby that offer a completely different experience. Whether you’re looking for a family-friendly soak, a dramatic mountain backdrop, or a natural hot pool deep in the forest, the Columbia Valley has a hot spring for you!
This is our local guide to the 3 best hot springs near Fairmont. We’ll share how far they are, why each is worth a visit and a few local tips to help maximize your experience.
1. Fairmont Hot Springs Resort Pools
Distance: 2.6km from Wilder Lodge
Cost: Click here for price list
Style: Developed, Family-Friendly
Best For: Families, Amenities
Fairmont Hot Springs is the largest natural mineral hot springs in all of Canada! The resort is known for its wide, steaming pools with panoramic mountain views. There is both a large warm pool (perfect for the kids to play in) and a hot soaking pool that feels great to relax in after a day of exploring.
Why visitors love it:
- There is a large green space with recliners in the summer months – ideal for picnics and relaxing!
- The pool has a large open deck with incredible mountain views
- Much more stable temperatures than the primitive hot springs
- You can turn it into a full day trip with restaurants, spa services, and hiking nearby
LOCAL TIP: Go for the late night swim! It’s only $8/person and is from 7:30pm-9:00pm (which is honestly the ideal amount of time to spend in the pools).
2. Radium Hot Springs
Distance: 40.6km from Wilder Lodge
Cost: Click here for price list
Style: Developed, Mineral-Rich, Mountainside
Best For: Couples, Scenic Views, Amenities
Radium Hot Springs is one of the more beautiful thermal pools in Kootenay National Park. The hot springs are located in a dramatic canyon with towering cliffs above the pool. Although water here is a bit cooler than Lussier Hot Springs, it’s incredibly soothing and packed with minerals such as sulphate, calcium, and magnesium.
Why visitors love it:
- Nestled between steep canyon walls for dramatic scenery
- Larger facilities with changing rooms, showers, and a cool swimming pool
- Located inside the national park — combine it with wildlife viewing or a short hike
- Often quieter than Fairmont, especially in the evenings
LOCAL TIP: If you’re lucky, there’s a good chance you’ll spot some bighorn sheep on the cliffs as you drive into the canyon.
3. Lussier Hot Springs (Whiteswan Lake Provincial Park)
Distance: 47.3km from Wilder Lodge
Cost: FREE
Style: Natural, Wild, Riverside Pools
Best For: Adventure Seekers, Nature Lovers, Photographers
Lussier Hot Springs is one of the most photographed natural hot springs in BC. Located deep inside Whiteswan Lake Provincial Park, these rock-lined pools sit right beside a rushing river. Temperatures vary by pool — the upper one is hot, while the lower ones mix with the river water to become a bit cooler. The pathway to the river is a bit steep, but there is no bushwhacking required as the trail and pools are well maintained by park officials. For convenience, visitors also have access to an outhouse and garbage receptacles.
Why visitors love it:
- These are real natural hot pools in the wild
- Multiple pools with different temperatures
- Soak in the stunning scenery around you – mountains, forest, river
- They are FREE
LOCAL TIP: Go early or on weekdays — this hot spring can get very busy! Half of the trip will require driving on gravel roads with potholes and cattle guards. You’ll need a vehicle capable of maneuvering these kind of roads. In winter, the road can get icy, and will require slow, careful driving.
Make a trip of it!
If you want to experience all three hot springs, be sure to book a 2–3 night stay in the Columbia Valley at Wilder Lodge! We would be more than happy to make sure there’s a cozy fireplace ready and waiting for you every night when you get back from your hot spring adventure.
